I thought of a way to build a moving mouth kigurumi mask~
I wish to use this thread to document all the steps and thoughts involved in this invention.
This would be a totally new invention to be discovered so it may take some time... well building the blinking eye mask did take about a year too... with a lot of pauses and waits for parts to arrive.

We shall see how it turns out~^__^

I have figured out how to make the mask and mouth, but I'm currently thinking about how to build the mechatronics to move it.~^^

There won't be lines on the face which looks like a puppet's face of course~

Excited?

I'm really interested to see how this project goes. I do have some experience with animatronics, but it's been a little while. Are you planning to make the mask out of a different material than usual (something flexible like foam latex or silicone instead of resin)? I suspect you might be able to make this work by making the mouth separate from the rest of the mask. Hmm, can't wait to see what you have planned!

Hehe... I will post the methods up when I get the materials next week~^___^
The conventional methods won't work too well, you can't use silicone as its too soft and you can't use separate mouth as it will have a line... well its been known that that will be the issue for ages.

No worries, this new idea totally avoids all those issues.... and its much cheaper too~^___^

hm..interesting...but machine-mouth? hm...then need a voice in it>o< silly, using own lips to move the mouth is much cheaper and saver.

this sounds pretty cool but there's two major issues i can see with this

The first, is that if you use machine to do it it will probably look quite robot like, severely increasing the uncanny valley affect, it might be better to use your actual lips to control it instead (like how some of the high end latex masks work) adapted of course.

The second is that unless you pull this off perfectly it will make the mask look much more "creepy" to the average person.

sorry to be a pessimist, i really hope you pull this off wyu

Hmm...I would guess some kind of "jawless" design, where a mouth piece would lower/raise from a slot behind the upper lip. Basically, the upper-lip and chin would stay in the same place. The lower-lip and "mouth" would move down, covering up the "chin" space below the lips. Sort of like:
